LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Valentine’s Day doubled as National Donor Day, and one group is highlighting the importance of organ donation with a special screening of a new movie in Lexington.
“Ordinary Angels” is a thought-provoking story that almost didn’t happen because of bad weather 30 years ago.

The movie tells the emotional true story of a Louisville community uniting during Kentucky’s historical 1994 snowstorm to help save the life of a little girl in need of a liver. Her name was Michelle Schmitt.
“She had faith in God,” said Ashley Schmitt, Michelle’s older sister. “She loved animals, and she just really had this urgency to help other people like the people that helped her growing up.”
Both girls were born with liver deficiencies, requiring transplants. Ashley received her new liver first.
“When you get that transplant, it just changes your whole life,” said Schmitt. “You feel so much better automatically. It not only changes your life but your family’s.”
