Man convicted in 2022 shooting that injured Kentucky State Police trooper

CYNTHIANA, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A man has been convicted in the 2022 shooting of a Kentucky State Police trooper.

A jury found LeeQuan Taylor guilty of a criminal attempt to commit first-degree manslaughter, assault, possession of a controlled substance, and fleeing and evading police.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7.

On January 28, 2022, Trooper Michael “Mike” Sanguigni was on patrol in Cynthiana and stopped Taylor for having a suspended driver’s license. Taylor then shot Sanguigni near Delta Court.

Kentucky State Police said Sanguigni was shot six times, three of which were stopped by his bulletproof vest, with the other rounds hitting his taser, radio, and a part of his body.

A Fishing and Wildlife officer transported Sanguigni to Harrison Memorial Hospital before he was taken to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
