Long-time Lexington firefighter arrested, charged for allegedly shoplifting

A Lexington firefighter was arrested on Wednesday in Fayette County and charged for allegedly shoplifting at an area Walmart, officials with the Lexington Fire Department reported.

Officials detailed that Lexington firefighter Robert Perkins was arrested and charged with “Theft by Unlawful Taking (Shoplifting)-under $500.” A filed citation read that on June 6 a Walmart employee reported to police that a theft occurred at the 500 West New Circle Road store location.

The employee detailed to police what he observed on Walmart’s surveillance cameras on June 1, noting that he saw an individual, identified by police as Perkins upon investigating, with a bag of cough drops and a box of baseball cards on top at the self-checkout scan. The citation detailed that the employee reportedly only saw Perkins scan the cough drops.

The employee, the citation said, “confronted” Perkins as he left the store and he gave him the baseball cards back. During a search of recent Walmart transactions from Perkins, the Walmart employee discovered that a theft was allegedly committed during each transaction between April 28 and June 1. The thefts, according to the citation, resulted in a $221.20 loss for Walmart.
