LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Ahead of the upcoming election, councilwoman Brenda Monarrez has filed an appeal to reverse the ruling which granted a fellow councilmember a multiyear protection order against her.
Monarrez holds the Lexington Fayette Urban City Goverment (LFUCG) council district 4 seat. On Aug. 8, fellow District 6 councilwoman Denise Gray requested an emergency protective order against Monarrez citing unwanted sexual contact dating back to 2021.

On Oct. 16, the pair were in court for several hours. After a long day in court filled with witness testimonials, a judge granted Gray a protective order that would span three years, restricting Monarrez from being within 500 feet of Gray, her home, or her workplace.
“While the court has issued a protective order, I want the public to know that this decision is
being legally challenged,” Monarrez wrote in a statement released on Thursday. “I am fully committed to challenging this ruling and believe that, through the legal process, truth and justice will ultimately emerge.”
