Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop didn’t return after suffering a lower-body injury in the second quarter of the Vols’ 28-18 win over Kentucky on Saturday.
After the game, coach Josh Heupel said he didn’t have an update on Bishop’s status. He could provide more news at his press conference on Monday.
The SEC student-athlete availability report will be released Wednesday, when Tennessee could list Bishop.
Tennessee plays Mississippi State (2-7, 0-5) on Nov. 9 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).
Bishop, a former Karns standout, has served as Dylan Sampson’s backup during his redshirt freshman season. Bishop has rushed for 372 yards and three TDs in eight games.
Per usual, Sampson carried the load against Kentucky. The SEC’s rushing and scoring leader had 142 yards rushing and two TDs.
Sampson broke the Tennessee single-season record for rushing TDs with his 18th and 19th scores. Gene McEver previously held the mark of 18 rushing TDs set in 1929.
