Fast-growing, late-night chain coming near UK campus. Details of Lexington opening

A fast-growing East Coast restaurant chain is coming to Lexington.

Naz’s Halal Food is opening a new location, with late-night hours, near the University of Kentucky campus in The Hub apartment complex at 685 S. Limestone. The new restaurant expects to open in early December in the former location of Kung Fu Tea x TKK Fried Chicken, which closed in March .

Naz’s Halal Food caters to diners who miss the halal cart experience of big cities like New York and Washington D.C., home to most of its 41 locations. After starting as a food truck by two cousins in 2009, its first location opened in January 2018 with a fast-food Mediterranean menu. It’s expanded quickly since then.

What is on the Naz’s Halal Food menu?

Naz’s Halal is known for halal Mediterranean cuisine like rice platters, specifically chicken or lamb over rice. They also have a variety of gyros including chicken, lamb, fried fish, falafel and kofta kabab.

Staples like burgers, cheesestakes and chicken wings are also popular menu items, which will likely be a hit with the nearby UK campus, particularly with Naz’s staying open until 2 a.m. daily and 4 a.m. on the weekends.
