LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Since 2014, the Lexington & Fayette County Parking Authority (LEXPARK) has used the ‘Food for Fines’ program to have citations wiped for those who donate canned goods. Coming up, this program is expanding in a big way.
Since its launch in 2014, the program has collected more than 37,000 canned food items for those in need. LEXPARK is expanding the program to include monetary donations on the website for local non-profits including GreenHouse17, Step by Step, Black Prosperity Initiative, Arbor Youth Services, Shepherds House, and God`s Pantry.

Officials told FOX 56 that for every $10 donation, $20 of credit toward parking violations will be credited. LEXPARK executive director Laura Boison said this is meant to be a more convenient way for people to pitch in while clearing their fines, in addition to helping community partners.
“We wanted to make it more tailored to our clients because it was God’s pantry only, and maybe your cause is something different, like, greenhouse 17 or we have Shepherd’s House or Step by Step. There are six different organizations, so we wanted to connect more with our community, different organizations,” Boison said.
