Country Boy Brewing hosts Chili Cookoff for a good cause

GEORGETOWN, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Pans of chili lined the walls of Country Boy Brewing in Georgetown on Sunday afternoon, each one different from the next.

Contestants and tasters brought their appetite, some tasty food, and ambition to help the community.

“We take voluntary donations of canned goods and money for God’s Pantry. So it’s a need around the holidays, some way that we can give back,” said Mason Forsythe, Guest Relations and Events Director of Country Boy Brewing.

The brewery’s chili cookoff has been making a difference in the community for nine years now, with more than 500 people tasting and voting for their favorite bowl of comfort every year.

While the event takes place at a brewery, organizers say it’s a deed of kindness the entire family can participate in.

“Most people hear brewery and assume bar. Breweries are more community hubs, so it’s somewhere for families to come,” said Forsythe.

Last year’s chili cookoff winner, Sarah Fontanez, said “If you can start at home to help people that are in need, then, I mean, that’s that’s always the most important thing. I think you should always start at home and doing it in your local community is just as important, if not more important, than doing it in other communities.”
