These new Kentucky laws just took effect for 2025

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — When the clock struck midnight, some new laws took effect in the Bluegrass state. It’s not a lengthy list; most newly created laws take effect 90 days after the General Assembly adjourns each year, but for a variety of reasons some get a specific start date, such as allowing more time for implementation.

Starting now, the next time Kentucky drivers renew their driver’s licenses, a vision screening is required. The law has been on standby since being signed in 2021.

“It was just a good safety measure that has been proven to work in other states. A lot of other states have a similar vision screening requirement,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Naitore Djigbenou told FOX 56 about the new requirement.

Vision screenings can be done for free at the driver’s licensing regional office, or paperwork from a professional can be provided in person or if renewed online.
