LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) —Whether it’s picking up a new habit or losing an old one, the new year means new beginnings.
A recent trend is “dry January,” where people don’t drink any alcohol for one month.
“It’s become a common practice, especially after the holidays, where folks tend to indulge a little bit more than usual, so as folks get into the new year and start to think about the changes—the positive changes—they want to make, this is an obvious one,” said FOX 56 News Chief Medical Contributor, Dr. Ryan Stanton.
But for Zachariah Blackburn, every month is like Dry January.
“One important and key factor to being in recovery is you are always in recovery. When we let down our defenses, that’s when addiction creeps back in,” said Blackburn.
His alcohol addiction got to a point where he was drinking about a fifth and a half of vodka a day and couldn’t keep solid food down.
