LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thoroughbred trainers in Kentucky say they’re on edge after learning immigration authorities raided a racetrack in Louisiana, reportedly detaining dozens of migrant workers.
Longtime Louisville racehorse trainer Dale Romans says if these ICE raids expand to other tracks around the country, it’d “devastate the workforce in this industry,” of which migrants account for around 70% of the workers.
“So if you just swept them away, we’d be in serious trouble,” Romans told WHAS11 in front of his barn at Churchill Downs. “I’ve never felt the tension on the backside that we feel today.”…
