As a lifelong thespian, I can attest to the benefits of being involved in community theatre. Whether it is behind the scenes as a set painter, up in the lighting rafters, or standing in the middle of the spotlight. The experience will change anyone for the better, and you’ll have fun doing it.
Konstantin Stanislavski is considered the father of modern theatre, and I’m pretty sure he’s the guy who said, “There are no small parts, only small actors.” Meaning that even if someone is cast as “townsperson #2” with no lines and minimal stage time, their role is just as important to telling the story as the lead character.
While that may not be entirely true in the grand scheme of things, I do believe that everyone involved in a production matters and adds value to the overall end product. Especially when you consider whether their dialogue adds to the plot…
