LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Lexington animal rights advocates had to work quickly with help from law enforcement when a call for horses without water led to the discovery of over a dozen dogs in need of help, with their owner nowhere to be found.
Officials with Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control (LFACC) posted on Facebook around noon on Thursday, July 17, that crews responded to the call and knew who owned the animals but couldn’t reach her.

We began caring for the horses on-site ourselves,” LFACC officials wrote. “During the investigation, we also discovered 14 dogs: some tied up in a car, one tied to a tree, and others running loose on the property. We made the immediate decision to bring all the dogs to the shelter for care.”
It became increasingly clear to animal care professionals that something was very wrong, at which point they called the Lexington Police Department to help find the owner.
“Sadly, the owner was later found deceased,” animal control staff said. “Without that initial animal neglect call, many of her animals might not have survived.”
