Michigan man allegedly defrauded over $26K from UK Federal Credit Union

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Michigan man has been accused of scamming the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union out of more than $26,000.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said UKFCU claimed that on Aug. 17, 2024, two unknown individuals had stolen funds from member accounts at the Lexington branch.

Authorities said that Anthony Johnson and an accomplice, identified in a complaint as Dwayne Jones, used fake IDs with real member information to withdraw a pair of cashier’s checks worth $8,500 each.

The complaint alleged that Johnson cashed a $17,000 check using his actual Michigan ID. The police were allegedly able to identify Johnson through surveillance footage and check records…
