Block party held in honor of well-known Lexington anti-violence activist

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Community partners in Lexington are throwing a block party, honoring the memory of a prominent anti-violence activist. The Anita Franklin community-wide block party pays tribute to her legacy while also offering programs for kids in the city’s east end.

Franklin was a well-known Lexington activist after losing her son to gun violence in 2014. She became an advocate for youth, reaching out and leading them away from violence in the streets.

Ricardo Franklin, Anita’s son, said Wednesday’s block party is a chance to connect younger kids and their families with law enforcement and other community resources.
