Lexington organization helps send kids back to school in style

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) —An event at the Lexington Academy of Barbering (L.A.B.) on Sunday afternoon had kids ready to start the new school year with a new haircut.

Project Ricochet once again partnered with L.A.B. to provide free haircuts to hundreds of school-aged kids as students across the area prepare to return to the classroom.

“We just like to send students off to the school year with good confidence, hygiene, self-esteem, and send them on their way, knowing that they can do it, whatever they put their mind to. We just want to take the burden off for some families in the community just to help send them off to school right,” said Marvin Hayden, a barber instructor at LAB.

Organizers at the event told FOX 56 that providing free haircuts wasn’t just about getting kids ready for the new school year, though. They said an event like this one also helps to make barber shops and beauty salons trusted spaces within the community…
