The Lexington Fire Department battled a fire at a local landfill for hours Saturday evening.
A column of black smoke prompted the fire department to be dispatched to Haley Downs Drive at 4:18 p.m. Saturday, but when crews arrived, they found that the fire was actually coming from a large pile of garbage at the landfill at 4179 Hedger Lane, a fire department spokesperson said.
