Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte dies at 84; remembered as horse racing legend, friend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — When Pat Day launched his riding career in 1973, Secretariat was rewriting history — dominating the Belmont Stakes by a record 31 lengths to clinch the Triple Crown.

“Never say never, but I’d like to see the horse that would equal or beat that record he set that day,” Day said.

At the time, he never imagined he’d one day meet Secretariat, or Ron Turcotte, the legendary jockey who guided the horse to that unforgettable victory.
