LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — At first glance, the church at 530 North Martin Luther King Boulevard shows broken windows and crumbling architecture. Soon, this house of God will be a house for the community: a 22-unit affordable housing development.
“This church was built in the early 1900s and has been a historical gem of this area for years,” said Aqsa Qureshi of the Qureshi Development Group. “It’s almost 18,000 square feet and held a large congregation for years, but it’s now been vacant for over 20 years.”
The Qureshi Development Group, a family-run business, held a groundbreaking ceremony alongside local leaders on Saturday afternoon for the soon-to-be apartment building.

“When you’re looking for an affordable housing place, you can easily go to an empty lot. You can go to a commercial building, even, and renovate it,” said Humza Qureshi of the Qureshi Development Group. “We chose this specifically for its cultural impact and its beautiful impact on this neighborhood.”…
