LEXINGTON, Ky. — From Sept. 28-30, the Lexington Police Department reported multiple shootings, including the death of a 19-year-old.
Terry Dumphord, mentor and founder of the Voyage Movement, said the violence has been a sudden — and yet harsh — reminder to the teenagers they work with to keep them off the streets. He and others work to empower young people and instill leadership.
“They’re victims of gun violence,” Dumphord said. “They’re exposed to hearing it on a nightly basis, and they’re trying to process it and say, ‘OK; in the world that I’ve grown up in, that I was introduced to, how do I navigate that?'”…
