Lexington leaders seek increased funding for homelessness solutions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — People working to end homelessness in Lexington are asking the city for more money. They’re calling for a more permanent resolution, saying band-aid solutions only go so far.

As federal regulations, such as the Safer Kentucky Act, enforce harsher restrictions on homeless people, Lexington city leaders say helping the population has become even more challenging.

“We have fewer landlords that are willing to participate in programs,” said Homelessness Prevention Manager Jeff Herron. “We have units that often exceed the rates that we can pay on assistance programs, and it’s just becoming very, very difficult to navigate.”…
