Summit brings Kentucky students together to promote suicide prevention

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — On Friday, Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Leestown Campus hosted the annual Sources of Strength Peer Leader Summit, bringing together a dozen schools from across Kentucky for a day of empowerment, connection, and learning.

The event, held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., focused on promoting mental health, suicide prevention, and resilience through peer leadership and collaboration.

Blake Konny, Safe Schools Consultant with the Kentucky Department of Education, said this year’s summit marks major growth in student participation.

“This is the second one we’ve thrown in the last two years,” Konny said. “We work with schools throughout the state to implement Sources of Strength, which is a suicide prevention program. It’s peer-led, meaning the students are really in charge of what happens and how it goes.”…
