LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – As fall temperatures signal the arrival of colder months, Lexington’s homeless shelters are already reaching capacity, leaving organizations scrambling to find solutions for hundreds of people who may have nowhere to sleep this winter.
City-wide surveys conducted by different organizations show Lexington is short anywhere from 350 to 600 beds when it comes to housing those living on the streets, according to Ginny Ramsey with the Catholic Action Center.
“We’ve never seen it, as many people who are experiencing homelessness who need a shelter, and the shelters are full,” Ramsey said.
