LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) reported an increase in whooping cough cases on Tuesday.
In a Nov. 11 press release, officials said 11 cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, have been confirmed since Oct. 3, with most of those reported since Oct. 24. This is an increase from Monday’s report of eight cases.
All individuals were up to date on their vaccinations, according to LFCHD.

The health department said one case is a 1-year-old child, and the remaining 10 cases involved school-age children:
- 5 at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
- 3 at Lafayette High School
- 1 at Lansdowne Elementary School
- 1 at Lexington Christian Academy High School
