Man accused in deadly shooting near Tates Creek Campus to appear in court

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The man accused of killing a Detroit man on Nov. 7 in a shooting near a Lexington school campus will appear in court Friday morning.

Erick Morgan, 36, was arrested Friday on Redding Road after allegedly shooting Derrico Wallace Jr. of Detroit on the 1000 block of Centre Parkway, on the opposite side of Gainesway Park from Tates Creek Campus. Authorities said security cameras recorded the shooting and that Morgan matched the description of the suspect.

Wallace was taken from the scene to UK Chandler Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Morgan was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $1 million bond and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was additionally charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly shooting at a car with a child passenger on the same day near Garden Springs Drive.
