(NEXSTAR) – In a world of weird dating trends and theories, like “Shrekking” and “monkey barring,” it can be refreshing to come across advice that’s actually helpful. One such trend is making the rounds.

Referred to as the “bird theory” or “bird test” on TikTok, it’s “a simplified way of seeing if your partner is interested in you,” Devyn Simone, a dating expert and matchmaker, explained to Nexstar.

In videos posted to the platform, users record themselves telling their partner about a bird they saw that day or inviting them to come look at some birds outside. If the poster’s partner responds positively, it can be viewed as a good sign. But if the partner is dismissive or responds negatively, it’s viewed as a bad sign, according to Simone.
