OHPI Emergency Winter Weather Plan for Lexington homeless

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Lexington Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention (OHPI) has activated the Emergency Winter Weather Plan on Sunday as the cold weather sets in.

The plan will run from Nov. 30 through Dec. 5, with the possibility of extending it based on updated weather forecasts.

Under the weather plan:

Emergency shelters expand capacity as Lexington faces cold snap

  • Emergency shelters operate with expanded capacity and relaxed restrictions.
  • Lextran will provide free, fixed-route transportation to shelters.
  • Outreach efforts will increase to notify people of the weather and available resources.

A temporary winter shelter will be located at 1306 Versailles Road, adding 216 beds for men and women. The shelter will operate through April 1, 2026…
