Lexington school bus falls on its side after section of road gives way, officials say

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — An empty school bus rolled onto its side after the shoulder of New Circle Road gave way on a snowy Monday morning.

Crew members with FOX 56 News saw the bus around 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 8 in the area of New Circle Road and Liberty Road. Winter conditions had prompted leaders in several Kentucky districts to close or delay school.

Tracy Bruno, chief of staff for Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS), told FOX 56 that a driver had been taking the bus to a garage on Liberty Road when another vehicle crowded it, causing the bus to merge onto the shoulder before it gave way, causing the bus to turn slightly on its side.

“Thankfully, there were no students on the bus, and the adults on board did not sustain any injuries,” Bruno said.

At the crash scene, a tow truck was nearby, and first responders were preparing to get the bus safely to the garage. Traffic in the area remains open…
