An old rivalry is renewed in Lexington on Saturday night as Indiana and Kentucky meet for the first time in nearly a decade. This current crop of players hopes to put those former matchups in the shadows and make their own mark on the rivalry in a game specially brought to ESPN from Charles Barkley and Dick Vitale.
Year one at Indiana (8-2) for Darian DeVries has been a solid start, even coming off last weekend’s tough showing against a very talented Louisville crew. For the most part these Hoosiers have taken care of their business and already have three double-digit wins over power conference foes. Unfortunately, Indiana fell flat in their first true road game at Minnesota earlier this month and hopes to avoid a similar effort.
The situation at Kentucky (6-4) is slightly direr, as Mark Pope’s squad has blown every opportunity to date in nonconference play. The Wildcats showed off their strengths in those six wins at home to mid-major foes, but were blasted by Michigan State and Gonzaga, lost at home to North Carolina, and didn’t fare well either against rival Louisville. Putting together a better performance is necessary getting another one of these big matchups at home in Lexington.
