Kentucky police department warns about the dangers of puffy jackets, car seats

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — With temperatures dropping and parents bundling up their kids, Georgetown police are reminding people about the importance of a secure car seat.

On Friday, the Georgetown Police Department shared a post on Facebook telling caretakers about how puffy jackets can create the illusion of a secure-fitting car seat.

“It’s freezing outside, and those big fluffy coats are tempting. But when it comes to car seats, bulky jackets and thick coats can actually put kids at risk,” the police department wrote on Facebook.

According to deputies, as a general rule, parents should make sure that children are not wearing any bulky clothing, including winter coats and snowsuits, underneath the harness of a car seat…
