‘We’re Blessed Every Day We Have Him’: Catching Up With 32-Year-Old Distorted Humor At WinStar Farm

The story of WinStar Farm can’t be told without big chapter about cornerstone sire Distorted Humor, and that chapter continues to be written as the pensioned stallion approaches his 33rd year of life.

Distorted Humor literally came with the place when Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner purchased the former Prestonwood Farm in January 2000 and re-christened the Versailles, Ky., property WinStar Farm. At the time, Distorted Humor was entering his second season at stud, and future dual classic winner Funny Cide was just a few months away from being born.

In the 25 years since that acquisition, Distorted Humor sired 23 crops of over 2,000 total foals that won over 4,400 total races and earned more than $175 million. He’s responsible for an Eclipse Award winner, a Sovereign Award winner, and an Australian champion steeplechaser. He’s sired a winner for all three legs of the American Triple Crown, as well as the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and he’s sent an army of sons to carry on his legacy at stud…
