Scott County deputies warn public of new wave of ‘spoofing’ scams

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) warned community members on Friday about scammers trying to disguise themselves as law enforcement.

Deputies posted on Facebook around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 26 that callers were “spoofing” the sheriff’s office’s phone numbers, claiming that the victim has active warrants and a payment over the phone will settle the issue.

“Just another reminder, we will NEVER discuss warrants or ask for any form of payment over the phone,” deputies wrote on Friday. “Please warn the elderly in your life, as they are unfortunately the most common victims.”

Authorities in Scott County said that if any residents receive calls about over-the-phone payments of any kind, they should immediately disconnect the call and block the number…
