Lexington sees decade-low homicides, youth violence drops

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – New data shows significant progress in reducing youth violence in Lexington.

The city has recorded its lowest homicide total in a decade, and leaders say continued progress will require a community-wide effort.

There were 20 homicides in Lexington in 2025. 10 of the victims were teenagers or young adults, which is five fewer youth gun-related homicides than the four-year average.

Even so, Kenneth Payne, who serves as the Crisis Response Coordinator for ONE Lexington, said it’s important to remember the victims are not just a statistic, but a person and somebody’s loved one…
