Lexington doctor reminds people of MMR vaccine after measles outbreak in Grant County

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Health officials in Kentucky are warning the public about potential measles exposures in Grant County, as vaccination rates across the state remain low and concerns grow about the highly contagious disease.

According to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, an unvaccinated, out-of-state traveler stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Dry Ridge from Dec. 28 to Dec. 30, 2025, and visited the Ark Encounter on Dec. 29. Anyone who was at those locations during those times may have been exposed.

Measles is a respiratory virus that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or breathes. It can linger for hours after a person leaves an area, making it especially easy to transmit.

“We actually had measles basically eradicated in the United States 25 years ago,” FOX 56 chief medical contributor Dr. Ryan Stanton said. “And now we’re seeing those numbers continue to grow.”…
