WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Morgan County inmate has died after being assaulted, Kentucky State Police said.
According to state police, troopers were alerted around 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, to an assault that had occurred between two inmates at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC).

When troopers arrived, they said they found 49-year-old Marcus Gray unresponsive in his cell. He was taken to Morgan County ARH Hospital, then flown to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
KSP said that its preliminary investigation revealed that John D. Tomas, 32, allegedly assaulted Gray. Criminal charges have not been filed at the time of publishing this story.
