With five not running, Lexington-Fayette council faces major turnover in 2026

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette County Council now has five council members not seeking reelection. There are 15 members on the council.

Lisa Higgins-Hord, who serves District 6, announced Tuesday she would not seek reelection to her seat. Mayor Linda Gorton appointed Higgins-Hord to the position on Aug. 22, 2025.

In a statement, Higgins-Hord said, “In my short time on council and work with individuals on council in the past, I recognize this seat is bigger than anyone person who has sat in the seat to represent the district, and those who will be its representative in the future. It’s imperative that it receive the respect and dedication of an individual who understands and cares about the needs of our sixth district constituents and they analyze and ask questions to arrive at decisions that impact its people’s quality of life in the best possible way.”…
