LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) is asking the community for help naming a new elementary school. The school is under construction on Greendale Road in Lexington.
District officials said the chosen name must meet one of the following requirements:
- Prominent local, state, or national figure of good character, such as Rosa Parks Elementary
- A prominent person who has contributed to the history and/or progress of the Lexington area, like Henry Clay High School
- A geographic area such as Leestown Middle School
The survey is anonymous, and you can submit multiple entries. Assistant Superintendent for FCPS Bill Bradford says when it comes to picking a name, they have a standard policy.
“We have a board policy that articulates, with a lot of intentionality, how we name our schools and our programs and so very specifically we are charged with initiating a committee that is reflective of the community surrounding this new school or program, to represent the interests of those in that area to name a school based on very specific criteria that the board has established that would be considered for a permanent name,” said Bradford…
