Healthcare leaders discuss when to vaccinate against measles

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky health officials announced the state’s first positive measles case of 2026 on Thursday.

Local and state health care leaders confirmed the infected person is an unvaccinated Jessamine County resident under the age of five. The Jessamine County Health Department said an out-of-state traveler exposed the child to measles.

The situation is raising questions on how to know if you’re protected against the illness.

Vaccines remain most effective protection
