2 garbage trucks crash, halting waste collection for Hardin County

HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A crash that involved two garbage trucks on Wednesday morning in Hardin County halted garbage collection for the rest of the day.

The landfill in Hardin County reopened Jan. 28 following the winter storm, and Unified Disposal Partners (UDP) resumed garbage collection. However, at 9 a.m., two trucks at the landfill slid into each other, according to a Facebook post from Hardin County Government.

Officials said a third truck, which was collecting garbage in a rural area, skidded into a steep ditch and had to be towed out.

No injuries were reported in either crash. However, county officials said the landfill was closed for the rest of the day, and UDP suspended trash collection.

“Please be patient and know our Hardin County road crews are working tirelessly to cover 568 miles of county roads,” officials said. “This was a major ice event, and it is very difficult to remove all the layers on the county’s 980 separate roads.”
