Tates Creek High School student-led walkout to protest ICE immigration enforcement actions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Students at Tates Creek High School participated in a student-led walkout Thursday afternoon to protest immigration enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE.

According to school officials, the school’s principal approved a walkout scheduled for 3 p.m. on campus. Students were informed ahead of time that leaving class earlier than the approved time or going off campus would result in a referral for skipping class.

Despite that guidance, multiple students left their classrooms more than an hour earlier, around 1:40 p.m., and walked off school property toward Armstrong Mill Road while chanting and holding posters.
