Blue Prize, a dual-hemisphere star who won the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, died Sunday night due to complications from colic brought about by lingering effects from a difficult foaling. She was 13.

The Argentine-born daughter of Pure Prize had resided at Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., since being purchased by Larry Best’s OXO Equine for $5 million at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton November Sale.
