Baptist Health Lexington colorectal cancer awareness event highlights early detection

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Health experts with Baptist Health Lexington say colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the United States. To mark Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, those experts and community partners hosted a free community wellness event emphasizing the importance of early detection.

Shane Naylor, a captain with the Harrodsburg Fire Department, attended the event after being diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer at age 39.

“It was a running thing with the fire house. It’s not if we get cancer, it’s when, so I always promoted the cancer policies we could get,” Naylor said. “After that, I didn’t think my win was gonna be at 39 years old.”
