LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Fayette County Public Schools may soon raise meal prices after the district says its food service program fell into the red.
The Kentucky Department of Education is requiring adjustments in districts with a negative nonprofit school food service account, or Fund 51. FCPS Spokesperson Miranda Scully said the district must use the Paid Lunch Equity requirements due to a negative balance at the end of last school year.
“We are not here to make money like restaurants. We are the largest restaurant in Lexington if you think about and so we want to make sure we break even,” said Michelle Coker, food service director for Fayette County Public Schools…
