LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A rare disease is now in the spotlight after three of nearly 150 passengers on board a cruise ship have died.
“Everybody has some memory of what happened in COVID-19, everything getting shut down and spreading and disrupting everything from here. This is not that virus,” FOX 56 Chief Medical Contributor Dr. Ryan Stanton said.
Local health professionals said hantavirus is uncommon and that the Andes strain, the only one documented for human-to-human transmission, is primarily found in South America.
