FCPS board to consider selling multiple properties

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — The Fayette County Public Schools Board is set to vote May 21 on declaring several district properties surplus and approving their sale, according to agenda documents obtained by WKYT.

The proposals are listed as consent items for the board’s regular meeting and each includes approval of a zero-dollar initial BG-1 application, a state facilities form required for the Kentucky Department of Education’s review.

Main Street/Walton Avenue campus

FCPS is asking the board to declare surplus and approve the sale of multiple properties at the corner of East Main Street and Walton Avenue, including:

  • 701 E. Main St. (Guy S. Potts Building)
  • 709 E. Main St.
  • 128 Walton Ave. (Ambrose Building)
  • 700 Bullock Place

District documents say the site totals about 3.328 acres and includes buildings that most recently served as central administrative offices until staff moved to the John D. Price Building in 2020.

The Bullock Place location most recently served as the Women’s Club Clothing Center.

The board will also consider declaring surplus and approving the sale of the Johnson Building properties at:

  • 115 E. Sixth St.
  • 117 E. Sixth St.
  • 123 E. Sixth St.

The documents say the site is about 3.19 acres and currently houses George Washington Carver Elementary, which is scheduled to move to a new location in August 2026.
