‘I just wasn’t ready to let it go’: Lincoln ice cream shop thrives years after a twister destroyed it

It took only a few minutes to destroy what Clarice Loomis had spent 40 years building.

In May 2019, a small tornado tore through the intersection of South Coddington Avenue and West Van Dorn Street, on the western edge of Lincoln. The tornado was small and short-lived, and it only really damaged two buildings: Lee’s Chicken and Loomis’ C&L Dairy Sweet ice cream shop.

Tiffany Weber, Loomis’ granddaughter, recalled stopping by the ice cream shop the day of the storm when she noticed a green sky overhead. Initially thinking there was just a chance of hail, Weber remembers hearing the sirens blare from Denton…
