LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Cooler weather will continue to headline the forecast for the rest of the week with below average high temperatures expected for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Temperatures will be a bit warmer on Wednesday in eastern Nebraska, with highs reaching the lower to middle 80s with 70s across central and western sections of the state.
Clouds and potential rain will keep temperatures into the upper 60s to low to mid 70s across the state on Thursday.
Temperatures will start warming – but stay cooler than average – into the day on Friday, with highs in the upper 70s to low to mid 80s across the state.
Off and on thunderstorm chances still linger in the forecast as we head through the second half of the week. Most areas look to stay dry through the bulk of the day on Wednesday with a mix of sun and clouds. We won’t rule out a stray shower or two through the day – but the best chance for storms will be across western Nebraska into Wednesday evening as storms develop off the High Plains and push east across the state.
Strong storms will be possible with large hail and damaging winds as the main hazards. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. The SPC has a marginal and slight risk for severe weather across parts of the Panhandle into southwestern and south central parts of the state. Storms could potentially push into Lincoln and eastern Nebraska into early Thursday morning.
