Record rain in Nebraska leaves streets in Lincoln, Omaha underwater

Record amounts of rainfall pounded eastern Nebraska overnight Wednesday, causing flash floods that trapped and swept away cars caught in the deluge.

The National Weather Service in Omaha reported that Lincoln, Nebraska, saw over 6 inches of rainfall Wednesday. weather.com digital meteorologist Rob Shackelford said the city broke its all-time wettest single day record, which was previously 5.45 inches set on Aug. 29, 1910.

Water rescues overnight

Local reports said there were multiple rescues by boat overnight, and a Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokesperson told KLKN-TV that at least one person was trapped in their vehicle around 11:30 p.m. local time…
