OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The First Alert 6 Weather Team has been alerting you over the past several days about the heavy rain due to the remnants of Hurricane Polo and the system didn’t disappoint! Over the past 48 hours, estimated rainfall totals from radar is showing totals reaching up to the 6-8″category.
Zooming out, you can notice where the heaviest rain fell stretching from Lincoln through the metro and into western Iowa. The estimated rainfall timeline is from Tuesday morning through Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service has published a long list of total rainfall reports from across the viewing area. The next two graphics are official total rainfall reports and the highest amount reported was 10.41″ just north of Lincoln.
Just a reminder, the amount you see for your town does NOT mean you got exactly the same amount! It will vary slightly depending on where your rain gauge was as the rain fell.
With all of this rainfall, it comes as no surprising that September 2026 has officially been ranked as the second wettest September of all time! To finish off the month, we received 11.92″ for the entire month. The record is 13.75″ set back in 1965.
Thanks to the significant rainfall, the metro is now above average for yearly total rainfall.
On top of being the second wettest September on record, it was also ranked as the second hottest September on record too. The mean average temperature for September 2026 was 81.8° just short of the all-time record of 82.2°.
