Lincoln, NE- Nebraska communities are recovering after a night of historic rainfall caused widespread flash flooding across eastern Nebraska, including Omaha and Lincoln on Wednesday, September 30th, bringing record-breaking numbers to end the rainy month.
Lincoln recorded 6.15 inches of rain Wednesday, breaking the city’s previous single-day record of 5.45 inches set in 1910. More than 10 inches was reported in parts of northern Lancaster County, while more than 8 inches fell in portions of Douglas and Saunders counties.
Omaha firefighters responded to about 80 water-rescue calls in three hours, with more than 50 people and several pets rescued from an area near 62nd and J Streets where floodwaters reached 6 to 8 feet.
